SOFT TERRITORIES: ARCHITECTURE OF Continuity

Four-Star Hotel
Developed as part of the Makridis Associates team, the project transforms an existing 1980s hotel on the island of Zakynthos into a contemporary hospitality destination. The design expands and reconfigures the original structures through a series of new additions and landscape interventions, responding to the site’s local topography, dense vegetation, and lagoon-like setting. The architectural approach draws on Venetian and Zakynthian influences, reinterpreted through a restrained material palette and a composition that blends with the natural surroundings.

The proposal is organised through spatial conditions that balance privacy, autonomy, and shared use across the resort. Communal facilities serve the wider development, while accommodation extends from renovated rooms to more independent typologies. Landscape elements guide movement and create moments of pause, strengthening the connection between architecture and environment.
